QAnon: Show Notes

Good morning and welcome to the PhnomPenh Podcast and today we are going to delve into the world of Qanon.

Jingle

So what is Qanon, what or who is Q?

Ok, it's like this. The basis of the Q ideology is the same starting point as a number of other  conspiracy theories. The illuminati.

Now, much of what I talk about here is from someone I know, a young man from Germany who lives here in South East Asia and believes very much in what I am about to explain.

The Illuminati were a real organisation. The Bavarian Illuminati are the ones Max, we will call him Max, talks about.

The Illuminati[1] (plural of Latin illuminatus, 'enlightened') is a name given to several groups, both real and fictitious. Historically, the name usually refers to the Bavarian Illuminati, an Enlightenment-era secret society founded on 1 May 1776 in Bavaria, today part of Germany. The society's goals were to oppose superstition, obscurantism, religious influence over public life, and abuses of state power. "The order of the day," they wrote in their general statutes, "is to put an end to the machinations of the purveyors of injustice, to control them without dominating them."[2] The Illuminati—along with Freemasonry and other secret societies—were outlawed through edict by Charles Theodore, Elector of Bavaria with the encouragement of the Catholic Church, in 1784, 1785, 1787, and 1790.[3] In the following several years, the group was vilified by conservative and religious critics who claimed that they continued underground and were responsible for the French Revolution.

Even though Max talks about the illuminati, he is careful to avoid using that name, instead he calls them the predator class, or simply “The Cabal”, which means a secret political clique or faction. Max is clever, no matter what you think of his beliefs, he is a clever man, he knows that his thoughts alienate others, he is just a little cloudy on why.

So the basis of the Q belief system is that the illuminati, or the predator class, exist and control even today.

So, who or what is Q?

Well, it seems straight forward to say that Q is a real person, or even a group of real people.

Q started posting in 2017 on 4chan, and then later 8chan. He never claimed but did intimate that he was high up in the chain of command in the American government, the Q could be taken to mean clearance level Q

Q clearance or Q access authorization is the Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance required to access Top Secret Restricted Data, Formerly Restricted Data, and National Security Information, as well as Secret Restricted Data. Restricted Data (RD) is defined in the Atomic Energy Act of 1954 and covers nuclear weapons and related materials. The lower-level L clearance is sufficient for access to Secret Formerly Restricted Data (FRD) and National Security Information, as well as Confidential Restricted Data, Formerly Restricted Data, and National Security Information.[1][2] Access to Restricted Data is only granted on a need-to-know basis to personnel with appropriate clearances.

A Q Clearance is equivalent to a United States Department of Defense Top Secret clearance.[2] "For access to some classified information, such as Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) or Special Access Programs (SAPS), additional requirements or special conditions may be imposed by the information owner even if the person is otherwise eligible to be granted a security clearance or access authorization based on reciprocity."[2]

Max has floated two possibilities here, one is that President Trump himself is Q, and he is actually a very intelligent, manipulative leader with his own secret agenda. Another, which he favors, is that when JFK was assassinated he left a son, this much is proven. His son grew in both stature and power and later in life faked his own death in order to be able to avenge his fathers killing by the deep state.

Whoever Q is, Max is firmly of the belief that they are,( just like the illuminati, deep state, cabal predator class) a large military organisation with unlimited means and ultimate penetration. The world has a secret war between these two giant organisations, fighting each other in the shadows while keeping the rest of the world in blissful ignorance, apart from the growing number of truthers. I have to say, I love this idea. Two secret societies, one good, one evil, fighting over the souls of the world, it's what all good religions are made of. Lets not forget that Qanon is based on faith, based on ambiguous, brief messages, known as breadcrumbs, from an unknown source, translated and decoded for the populace by unknown elements. There is a lot of faith around Q.

The phenomenon of Q is kind of like a giant Alternative Reality Game or ARG. These games play out in the real world, in real time, clues are hidden in plain view, newspapers, twitter feeds etc The world becomes your console.

ARG’s are enticing for a certain type of person.

Many people feel alienated and left behind by the world. There’s something about QAnon that, very similar to ARGs, that reward and involve people for being the people  they are. They create a community that lets people show off their “research” skills and those people become incredibly valuable to the community. Research is such an interesting term to use here as it generally involves checking out very sketchy primary sources which fit your confirmation bias. Then the more you read these sources on the internet, the more similar sources you are supplied with, thanks to the well known algorithms of the worlds of social media and google.

So, in these times of pandemic how is it that Cambodia has been largely spared CoVid, and how is Q involved?

Well, here we have to get to the heart of Max’s beliefs. Here there are so many conspiracy theories, but Max does not believe that the virus is fake and neither does he believe that it is harmless. Max accepts that the virus is real and deadly but maintains that it is a created virus which is being deployed by the Q clandestine army all over the world in a series of orchestrated attacks on the predator classes.

The reason we have been spared here is quite simply that this is not one of the areas of the world which has a large number of the predators, here we are illuminati free to a large degree and so we have not been attacked. There is apparently a direct correlation between illuminati heavy countries and the severity by which that country has been attacked with this biological weapon.

Max waits eagerly for the next wave, the next stage of the great plan. The point at which the armies of Qanon make the next move against the predator classes.

So what is it that makes Q believable, what makes Q enticing?

Well, like all good stories, it contains nuggets of objective truth. The government, and by that I mean all governments are shady, they do so many things which further their own agenda or the agendas of the people and organisations close to them. They speak to powerlessness and the disenfranchisement which can leave vulnerable people looking for scapegoats, or for those overarching schemes which legitimise their own relative lack of power in big picture situations.

They are power for good, fighting a secret world evil, the cabal of the predator class are painted as peadophiles and cannibals, an inhuman evil operating in the cover of the shadows. They are a modern day Robin Hood.

Like all good conspiracy theories, those nuggets of truth sprout and lead in any direction the theorists would like them to. The limit of what is believable is extended beyond reasonable limits by the culture of fake news. It is both comforting and strangely romantic to be the resistance, the woke generation whose mission it is to save the world from the powers of evil, its every little boy or girl's dream.

So, what makes it dangerous?Surely it’s harmless right?

This whole thing makes such a great story of good and evil that you could imagine that it could be harmless but that I'm afraid is not the case. A quick search of the internet will pull up tragic stories of righteous obsession and people unfettered by the tedious requirements of real evidence, let alone proof. It seems enough to be able to spin a yarn which entertains and hits at least a few of the major points, it seems enough to find images in Trump's rallies of a man who could be an aging John F Kennedy Junior, and an even older lady who could be his mother.

It must be nice to be so unhindered by the drudgery of common sense.

But this is where Q excels because these are no requirements. Anything which debunks the ideology can be dismissed as fake news, anyone who questions the dogma can be pitied and ignored as sheeple or simply not woke. Proof is not required!

Meanwhile,QAnon conspiracy theorists are using public and private spaces and groups to spread disinformation, racism, and thinly veiled incitement to violence

The whole  thing is legitimised by Trump quoting some of the cliched phrases dropped by Q, Q banners and t-shirts are publicly flashed in all manner of places as it becomes more and more acceptable to do so.

Trump as the main swashbuckling hero, manipulating and fighting the evil which hides in plain view is also a worry as you can bet these people will be out to vote very soon. They may not have voted in the last twenty years but this time they will, and the reign of Trump will continue.

In the movie ïdiocracy”, a dystopian view of a near future, anti-intellectualism was the norm. Our normal today is not that, it is much more insidious. Movements like Q are not anti-intellectual, they are pseudo- intellectual, and this is far more dangerous.
